Lecture: Canadian Stance on Current Immigration Crisis

In the beginning of November, on 2nd November 2015, the student organization Model United Nations Prague was honoured to welcome His Excellency Mr. Otto Jelinek, the Ambassador of Canada in the Czech Republic in University of Economics in Prague. The ambassador agreed to present the stance of Canada on the current immigration crisis followed by discussion with participants of this lecture. The debate had focused mainly on possible solutions of this crisis as well as on different approaches towards this issue highlighting Canadian positive experience with its open immigration policies.

His Excellency Mr. Jelinek is a former athlete, businessman and politician. He was born in Czechoslovakia but escaped communism with his family in 1948 and settled down in Canada. He took up figure skating and won the World Figure Skating Championships for Canada that took place in Prague in 1962. In 1993, he left politics and moved to the Czech Republic and for nearly a decade, he was the Chairman of Deloitte for Central Europe. In September 2013, Mr. Jelinek was appointed Ambassador of Canada to the Czech Republic.
